Kuma – Frame Data

Kuma is a massive, aggressive bear who wears opponents down with relentless chip damage. His simple, high-damage tools make him easy to pick up, but his large hitbox and weak sidestep demand solid defense. Play him aggressively and force constant chip damage.

Overview

Huge whiff-punish range and powerful Heat; poor mobility and risky lows require caution.

Heat System

In Heat, Kuma gains H.df+2+3, a mid electric that is +5 on block and launches, and can be charged to become +8. Both versions can be stepped to the right, and the increased pushback prevents spamming. His Bear Roll becomes a mid special attack, ROL 1 becomes a guard break, and some moves (db+1,2**, ws1,2**, HBS.1,2**) reach max charge faster.

Strengths

Chip damage: Amazing chip damage from moves like WR 1+2, b+1+2, and b,f+2.Combo damage: High combo damage, especially at walls, where df+1,2,1+2 guarantees d+1+2.Hunting Bear Stance pressure: Strong moves like HBS df+1, HBS.1,2, and HBS f+1+2.Poking: has FC d+1; db+3; db+2 and other moves to stress the opponent.

Weaknesses & Counterplay

Movement: Poor sidestep and lateral movement, forcing you to block and guess more in certain situations.Large hitbox: Characters like Nina get much better combos against Kuma and can deal more damage.
Game Plan
Pressure with chip damage: work WR 1+2, b+1+2, and b,f+2 into your offense.Play aggressively, but keep your defense disciplined — you can't step, so block and guess in bad spots.Mix up from Hunting Bear Stance with HBS df+1, HBS.1,2, and the unbreakable HBS f+1+2.In Bear Roll, use Heat-enhanced ROL 1 for guard breaks and follow lows like ROL 3 into d1+2.At the wall, extend combos with df+1,2,1+2 and finish with d+1+2.
Stances
Hunting Bear (HBS) — enter: Via moves that transition into Hunting Bear Stance — Mix-up stance with homing mid HBS df+1 (counter hit launch, wallsplat, only -7), charged HBS.1,2that launches on CH, and unbreakable, unreactable grab HBS f+1+2 for 40 damage.Bear Roll (ROL) — enter: Via moves that transition into Bear Roll — In Heat, ROL 1 becomes a guard break with a guaranteed f1+2. ROL 2 is a launcher but launch punishable on block. ROL 3 is a low with guaranteed d1+2, and ROL 4 on hit guarantees d1+2.Bear Sit (SIT) — enter: Via moves that transition into Bear Sit — SIT 2 is a launcher at -12 on block. SIT 1 and SIT 1,1 are lows that are plus on hit but -12 on block.
